Alady holds a caught Barramundi on a fishing charter boat at Shady Camp Billabong in Mary River National Park

Barramundi & inland fishing

Take a moment to immerse in the serenity as you await the anticipated action from a mangrove Jack, Thready or the infamous Barra in billabongs, creeks and rivers.

Throughout the Darwin region, walk out along tree-lined creeks – some flowing onto cascading waterfalls – or cast a line in the estuaries leading into Darwin Harbour. Travel an hour from Darwin to Mary River National Park and take a boat ride out on a calm billabong in the early morning with lily pads blooming and water buffalo bathing in the distance.

Hit the big rivers of the Katherine region and battle against crocodiles to catch a Barramundi or cast a line in tidal estuaries (another great spot) for Barra action. Head further east to the Victoria River and fish with the locals, or south to Roper River near Mataranka region and fish at the ‘roper bar’ – a crossing separating the saltwater and freshwater sections of the river.
